Sparrow Academy, a school for children struggling with trauma and behavioral issues, opened on August 24, 2015. The school was founded to provide families with a place that understands why traumatized children have needs that must be addressed in a specialized manner. Many students at Sparrow Academy have been abused, neglected, and abandoned by their biological family. One student lived in 36 foster homes from the time she was 10 months old until she was adopted at the age of 7. Another sibling group attending Sparrow Academy was in 13 foster placements before the age of 9. At Sparrow Academy, we understand that our brain controls our behaviors and when our brain is disorganized, we have a difficult time functioning in school and at home. That is why our first priority at Sparrow Academy is to help children and their families figure out how to reorganize their brain. Using proven research-based methods, we help families regain control of their lives. We are able to accomplish this through building relationships and providing safe learning environments.
