A Message From Our Executive Director
Thank you for taking time to check out Sparrow Academy. We are here to provide you with an alternative to the traditional educational experience. As an adoptive parent, I understand the struggles that families face when their child does not "fit in" at a regular public school. Not to talk down public education, there is a place for it in our society. However, some children need something different. That is why Sparrow Academy was founded.
At Sparrow Academy we understand that our brain controls our behaviors and when our brain is disorganized, we have a difficult time functioning in school and at home. That is why our first priority at Sparrow Academy is to help children and their families figure out how to reorganize their brain. Using proven research-based methods, we help families regain control of their lives. We are able to accomplish this through building relationships and providing safe learning environments. I know first hand that the strategies work because they have worked in my own family and in schools I have worked with throughout Polk County.
I have been an educator for over 16 years right here in Polk County. I have a B.A. in Secondary Education from Southeastern University and a M.A. in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. As a certified teacher, I have taught children in second grade through eighth grade, working with regular education and at-risk students. I have also served as a school administrator for several years.
After adopting my daughter from the foster care system and receiving extensive training in trauma informed care, I knew that incorporating the skills I learned to help my daughter could transform a classroom. Therefore, after years of planning we have developed Sparrow Academy to meet the needs of children in our community.
I look forward to meeting you and telling you more about Sparrow Academy and the programs we offer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about our school.
